Walk By Faith, Not By Sight
For today’s blog post sharing, I would like to share some reflections from the verse 2 Corinthians 5:7 — “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Today, we live in a world that constantly tells us to see before we believe. If we can’t measure it, prove it, or visualize it, then it must not be real. However, God’s words invites us into a radically different way of life; one anchored not in what we can see, but in whom we trust.
Walking by faith means choosing to rely on God's promises even when our circumstances suggest otherwise. It means believing in His goodness when doors close, when prayers feel unanswered, and when the future seems uncertain.
Faith isn’t just wishful thinking. It is trusting in God’s character and Word, even when we don’t see the full picture. When Abraham left his homeland, he had no GPS, no 5-year plan. All he had was a promise from God. Yet, he obeyed without doubting God.
In Hebrews 11:8 it says; “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called... And he went out, not knowing where he was going.”
Like Abraham, many of us may be in seasons of uncertainty. Maybe some of us are facing a career transition, a delay in promotion, or having to make a tough decision. In this silence or confusion, we may wonder, “Is God really leading me?” However, we ought to remember it is often in those moments where faith takes root and physical sight must step aside.
Trusting the Invisible God in a Visible World
In today’s digital age, we want proof instantly. We want to see the fruit of our obedience right away but God doesn’t always work on our timeline.
In Hebrews 11:1 it says; “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” This verse reminds us that walking by faith is not walking blindly. It’s a walk based on truth that God is faithful, even when the road ahead is foggy, and His Word holds, even when our emotions waver and that He is present, even when we can’t feel Him.
However, there will be days when we feel like we need more assurance, more signs, more clarity, more “evidence” but faith calls us to shift our focus from our need to see to His call to trust.
In John 20:29 it says; “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Think of Peter, who walked on water. As long as his eyes were on Jesus, he stood firm. The moment he focused on the storm, he sank. Hence, it is the same with us. Fixing our eyes on Christ is not easy, but it's the only way to truly live above the “storms”.
Practical Ways to Walk by Faith Today
Therefore, here are three simple but powerful practical ways we can begin to walk by faith today:
Pray Honestly; Bring your doubts and fears before God in prayer. Faith is not pretending we are fearless. It is choosing to trust even when we are trembling.
Meditate on God’s Word; Let the Word of God reframe your reality. Faith grows when we remember what God has done and what He has promised his faithful disciples.
Choose Obedience Over Certainty; Take the next right step even when you can’t see the whole staircase. Trust that God will guide each step.
To conclude this sharing, as you read this, you might be in a place right now where you feel lost in the dark and unsure of your next step. I would like to encourage you that you are not alone. God is still working, even when you can't see it. Having Faith is not easy, but it is worth it because the One who calls you is faithful.
Keep walking. Keep trusting. One step at a time. Not by sight, but by faith.
